A recent consultation opened my eyes up to Risk as a discipline that IT Asset Management could help with. Clearly, having staff on board solely to address risk means that a company is of an Enterprise/ Global size, but that doesn't mean to say that such size immunizes a company from poor management of their software and hardware assets.
At SAM Charter, we recognize that taking an esoteric discipline such as IT Asset Management and spinning it into something the C-suite will be interested in, is something of a challenge. After all, that's why we hire IT people to perform IT tasks. However, a meeting of these sectors of business is required if seven or even eight-figure penalties are to be avoided.
Regulation & Legislation
Regulatory and legislatory requirements are only ramping up in terms of their intensity. Being able to speak "IT" to risk professionals will do wonders to move risk mitigation in the right direction for your company.
Through our partnership with ITAM Accelerate, we have itemized the requirements for an organization to be ISO 19770-1 compliant. This is the ISO Management Systems Standard by which IT Asset Management is bench-marked. Here, we have highlighted the top six risks an enterprise organization could foresee as risks to be placed at the door of ITAM. We have then aligned those risks to the ITAM processes that could demonstrate effective management.
A lot of companies might be working under an assumption that there risk profile is sufficiently addressed. The SEC doesn't care about the size of your brand or the number of companies you operate in. Blue-chip companies have been penalized in the last two years, and the pace of penalty generation isn't slowing down. Even for those company that self-report their lapses to the SEC.
You are just a download away from better risk-based decisions when it comes to managing IT assets.
